Barrowmore is a long established charity specialising in the fields of Employment, Accommodation and Training and Development for people with a disability.
The Barrowmore Estate is situated 7 miles east of Chester in 85 acres of prime parkland originally owned by the Lyle Smith family and was purchased by the Joint Committee of the British Red Cross and the Order of St John of Jerusalem in 1920 as a sanatorium to treat service personnel returning from the First World War with tuberculosis.
Since then the organisation has developed into one of the region's foremost disability charities.
The charity does not define nor specialise in any particular disability but offers support and development where it can to those whose lifestyle can be enhanced by its services.
From being an unincorporated trust since 1920 Barrowmore became a private company limited by guarantee in 2007 whilst still retaining its charitable status.
The board of Directors is the hub of governance and policy and the day to day management of the Charity is undertaken by the Chief Executive and Senior Managers responsible for all its activities.
